WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN) today welcomed the announcement that Carbon Motors has selected BMW to produce the engine and transmission for the E7, its state-of-the-art police car to be manufactured in Connersville, Indiana.

“By joining forces with Carbon Motors, BMW is now an integral part of producing the world’s first vehicle designed and built solely for the law enforcement community. This new clean-energy police car will be a boon to those on the front lines of keeping our communities safe. On behalf of Indiana, I want to welcome BMW to the extended Hoosier family.

“Some of America’s best workers reside in and around Connersville. The production of the E7 will create thousands of Hoosier jobs and energize the local economy.”

BMW has a 35-year history of supporting job creation in the United States. The company is responsible for thousands of American jobs and more than $4 billion worth of investment in America’s economy.

Carbon Motors will produce the E7 in a refurbished automotive factory that will be upgraded to meet national energy efficiency standards. The E7 will rely on a clean diesel engine to reduce fuel use and carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40 percent. Police cars constitute one of the largest and most visible government fleets, meaning the E7 has the potential to significantly cut back on oil imports and the release of greenhouse gases.

“Carbon Motors exemplifies why Indiana is a leader in the emerging clean energy economy,” Bayh said. “All Hoosiers will benefit from these investments in our economy, our law enforcement community and our environment.”
