Carbon Motors™ Presents to LECTAC

New Automaker Strengthens Ties to Law Enforcement Authorities

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, March 27, 2007 – Today, in a closed-door session, Carbon Motors presented its plans to build the world’s first purpose-built law enforcement patrol vehicle to the Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Advisory Council (LECTAC).

LECTAC is an advisory organization to the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Centers (NLECTC) and reviews select programs of the entire NLETC system. LECTAC was created to identify law enforcement equipment and technology needs, and to recommend program priorities. Council members of LECTAC represent federal, state and local criminal justice agencies; labor organizations; and national and international law enforcement and criminal justice organizations and are appointed based on their distinguished service records.

LECTAC works to strengthen links between the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the law enforcement community by reviewing and analyzing the present and future technological needs of the criminal justice system, particularly at the state and local levels. It also recommends research and development priorities to NIJ, and advises the NLECTC on equipment testing and the creation of standards, user guidelines and technical reports.

Carbon Motors Corporation was selected and solicited to participate in The Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization’s (OLETC) week-long Commercialization Planning Workshop in late February 2007. Upon successful completion of the Workshop, Carbon Motors was subsequently chosen to present its plan to the LECTAC.

The Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization (OLETC) is a program of the National Institute of Justice’s (NIJ) Office of Science and Technology, Office of Justice Programs and an initiative of the West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation. OLETC assists in the commercialization of innovative technology for use in law enforcement and corrections.

OLETC actively solicits manufacturers to commercialize technologies based on requirements identified by the Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and its Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Advisory Council (LECTAC), as well as from law enforcement and corrections practitioners.
