Location, Location, Location! Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

Where will Carbon Motors locate its headquarters, research & development, production center, sales, etc.? Now that the word is out that Carbon Motors will be unveiling the E7 demonstration vehicle to the nation sometime this year (cross fingers), we have been taking some interesting meetings. Given the $3 billion positive economic impact and 10,000 new direct and indirect American jobs that the Carbon Campus will generate over a ten year period, it’s no surprise that so many people are interested to see where we will end up calling home.

The rumor mill is churning, too. Some reporters have been guessing that we will put the Carbon Campus in Metro Atlanta somewhere – perhaps even in Clayton County at Ft. Gillem (U.S. Military Base). Others have suggested Athens, Georgia. And yes, every time we stop in Savannah, it is always ‘boy, do we have some land to show you!”. And yet others have asked about the possibility of a brownfield site in Atlanta itself (Fulton County – seems like Ford and GM just left town having closed their respective plants)?

When I met with Secretary Tom Ridge (former head U.S. Dept of Homeland Security – he’s just joined our Advisory Board), he said that if he was still governor of Pennsylvania he would do everything in his power to get us to move there. Interesting.

Stay tuned.

I vote for Athens. It would be nice to have more than two major employers here, and your facility would bring a much-needed labor market to town. Plus, land is cheap, and Athens is the best small town in the state (trust me, I lived in Atlanta for over 12 years: ATL is nice, but Athens is better.)

Having a major Homeland Security company in the Atlanta region would be a very positive and welcome development, given the latest news with regard to Georgia Pacific, Ford, GM, Delta etc. We desperately need a success story like this. All the good news comes from foreign companies. This is a big idea whose time has come and I would love to see it happen right here in Atlanta.

What about Virginia? We have a former Ford assembly plant in Norfolk. Norfolk is alos a major port of entry and home to the US Navy Atlantic Fleet and several other military bases.

Detroit. You have an endless supply of skilled automotive workers available. State government is offering serious tax incentives right now to attract new economic opportunities. Carbon Motors is exactly what Michigan needs......

I vote for the Atlanta area. I can't wait to see this car in the hands of police officers.

Well I certainly hope you will look closely at the Cramerton & Charlotte NC sites. We already have a very skilled (30 Years) automotive assembly and parts work force with Freightliner who is currently laying off hundreds. Also located on I-85 and I -77. Several suitable buildings are already available which will be faster and cheaper than ground up construction.

Thanks for building in America Mr. Santana. I would hope that you have considered the Getrag Plant in Tipton County, Indiana that is available and virtually brand new with plenty of land for expansion if needed. As far as the infrastructure, Tipton County has done so much to accommodate the building, such as a new water treatment plant, electrical sub station, addition of needed roads and other improvements to the community. You literally have near by access to thousands of parts suppliers to our area here. The well-trained skilled work force and ready to work people here are ready to meet your expectations to build a quality product that you need. I really hope that Tipton has been communicating with you folks.

I vote where are minorities as well as other races. It's not fair that you would build a company in a all white town giving the jobs only to whites.

Robert McElhaney said:

Since the final three sites have been selected there is one thing that you might want to consider. The Aiken, SC area can afford you a skilled work force of non-union workers. The UAW has time and time again proven they have no desire to help the automobile companies they deal with. The have single handedly crippled the US automakers in the disaster they are today. I do not mean to come across negative, the facts are the facts. A union based labor force will cause you issues. We are very proud in this area of working together for companies that decide we are worth the effort.
