Leadership. One of the many important traits required to make significant progress. I was very pleased to take a call from Governor Tom Ridge (First Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and two-time Governor of Pennsylvania) who serves on the Carbon Motors Advisory Board. He indicated that Governor Mitch Daniels (R-IN) had taken the initiative to connect with him and expressed his interest in having Carbon Motors locate in Indiana – and wanted to know what it would take.
I have since assigned our Executive VP and Chief Production Officer, Alan J Bratt, to take the lead for the effort along with our Executive VP and Chief Financial Officer, Keith R Marchiando. They have had the initial exploratory dialogue with Indiana and we are looking forward to the initial proposals. Add to that there are some boots on the ground from law enforcement that are pushing some buttons there for us, a few major auto transplants have set up shop there, and of course the Indy 500!
Now I am not sure if the State of Indiana will be our future home, but what I do know is that there is a senior elected official there that is looking out for the citizens of his state and willing to take action. Because he is willing to have his staff make the effort, we are willing to reciprocate and meet to discuss opportunities that might be of mutual interest and benefit…

As superintendent of the public schools in Fayette County I normally do not get involved with blog comments, however I feel compelled to weigh in on the possibilities of Carbon Motors coming to Connersville. When I first learned of Carbon Motors I called my son who is a police officer in Speedway, Indiana to see what he knew about your police vehicle. While he has not seen the vehicle first hand, he stated that those on the police force that had were very impressed with it. Sharing his thoughts on your vehicle is not the primary reason for sending this to you but I wanted you to know I appreciate the work that has gone into designing your vehicle and I wanted to know how those you designed it for view your product before I expressed any opinion. As you are faced with the difficult decision as to where to locate your manufacturing facility I want to assure you, that as a school corporation we would welcome the opportunity to partner with you and provide support in any way that was feasible. The educational organizations in Connersville, which includes Fayette County School Corporation, Indiana University East, Ivy Tech Community College, Whitewater Technical and Career Center, and the Community Education Coalition, have already partnered to provide educational opportunities form our community. I think our relationship is unique as our partnership has allowed for the development of programs to meet the needs of our community from pre-school through adulthood that would not have been possible without our willingness to work together. I am convinced we would be able to assist you in any training and educational needs you might have. We believe in partnerships and welcome t the opportunity to partner with Carbon Motors. Good luck in your decision making process. It is my hope that you will find Connersville a great place to be.
I actually posted a comment on the "Let's talk about Georgia" blog because I didn't see the one about Indiana. But I will reiterate what I said on that blog. Connersville Indiana is a good place to raise a family and feel safe...It is full of hard working citizens that have (in many cases) worked in manufacturing for generations. We have a strong work ethic and desire to help our community become the thriving work environment that it has been in years past. We have many things that would be considered an asset to any company that is looking for a place to call home. Our airport is very convenient for corporate travel, or even for expedited shipments. We have direct access to railways that travel through Connersville. There are several opportunities for education, but I can't help going back to the fact that we are a very grass roots, family oriented community full of hard working people that would love the opportunity to show our work ethic and values to Carbon Motors.
I just received this e-mail from the Fayette County Foundation about Carbon Motors. What a terrific first step in helping bring back automotive jobs to America where they belong. I personally believe that Connersville, Indiana, is the perfect spot for your new production line because, after all, we are the "Crossroads of America." I agree with Dr. Hodges in his view of the commitment in our town to work together to improve our community and its workforce. I have taught at IU East and in the School Corporation. I have taken classes with Ivy Tech and the CEC--you could not find a better educated, highly motivated, or innovative group to work with in order to help you in your endeavour to produce this amazing car for our valiant police force. Our community is also in a superb location geographically, less than an hour to three major cities: Indianapolis--With the legendary history of the Motor Speedway and the Indy 500 known throughout the world for innovative thinking and design in the automotive industry. . . . Dayton--The Wright Brothers were born and raised right here in the Miami valley just a few miles from where they landed at Mettel Field across the road from the Visteon Plant in Fayette County. Their innovative and creative genius was nurtured right here in Indiana and came to fruition in their bicycle shop in Dayton-- (not in the Carolina's) Cincinnati--A river port and railroad hub within an hour of our town that has helped supply industry in our region for over a hundred years. Another fact you should know about our "Little Detroit" is that even Henry Ford came here himself to view our industrial park early in the twentieth century to fashion his Michigan complex after the organization that he found right here in Connersville, Indiana. We have a documented history of achievers and believers in our little town. We are currently suffering an economical crisis not of our own volition. We have good, strong-willed, hard-working people who want to turn out a premier product if given the opportunity-- An opportunity that had been given to several generations before us, but over the years these opportunities have been sent overseas or down South. We are ready for a new opportunity, one that you can trust the advantages of in Connersville, Indiana: a commitment to work together to provide an educated workforce, a great geographical location at the crossroads of America, and most importantly a community of people with a hard-working, innovative work ethic.
Connersville, Indiana: In the early 20th century, Connersville became known as "Little Detroit" because of its importance to the automobile industry. Automobiles manufactured in Connersville include Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg, Ansted, Empire, Lexington and McFarlan. Some of the finest automobiles ever made were made in Connersville. There are thousands of people in Connersville and the surrounding communities just itching to build quality automobiles again. We have the best workforce – white collar, blue collar, all collars. We will provide you excellent customer service (“Hoosier” hospitality is a way of life here in the Hoosier State). There are firms in Connersville and throughout the state of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky standing ready to supply you with everything you need. We will be the best team and build the best machines. Carbon Motors – Connersville has a very nice ring to it. Please come to Connersville!
I think that you would find Indiana a wonderful location to call home. We have: * A talented work force with manufacturing experience. * Logistics for over the road, rail and air transportation. As well as the OH river about an hour away. * Long history of automotive manufacturing, Connersville is "little Detroit" * A wonderful, safe and opportunistic community to raise a family. * Existing facility and shovel ready space available. * A hour from the geographic center of the lower 48 states, closer then any other location on your short list. I know your decision will not be an easy one and I'm sure our elected officials will do a good job promoting IN but know that the people of Connersville are more than ready and willing to make your company successful.
As a retired career soldier from the Army, I chose Connersville for my wife and I to spend the rest of our lives. The people who live here welcome new people to the community with open arms and treat newcomers like they were natives. Now it has been 23 years, and the community is hurting from job losses and economic downturns, but I still sense that this community with one giant oppurtunity will bounce back and become a triving city once more. It is a great place to raise your children, a great school, both academic and vocational, wich prepares children for a future in college or vocational schools to make them future productive, educated citizens. The athletic programs are varied in school and out to give our children every chance to excel within the athletic community. There is a wonderful golf course in town and several others within easy driving distance. Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Dayton are all within an hour's drive and families relocating here would have plenty of things to do. We would love to have you join our community and be a great contributor to the recovery of it's pride and growth.
As a long time automotive technician, and living in the area around Connersville. I went to school in Connersville. The school has closed in last couple years. I watched for years and lived in Connersville for years. Knowing the facts of surrounding cities, and listening to those who have worked and lived in Connersville Indiana; it boils down to one thing. Location. Connersville is centralized for all aspects of the making of this fine vehicle. Employees, distribution, shipping, mailings, repairs, and most of all integrity. People are skeptic yet hopeful. the facility in question not only handle yet over exceed in the long run a company, vehicle, friendships, that will extend to all corners of the U.S.. To become a global leader in protection, safety, and passion in what is done. Connersville is located in hour drive from other major cities. The comments above explain issues from the past and present. The issue today is jobs, family, and honesty. We not only have these ideas, views or practices. We have the goal to be a world leader in the protection of U.S.A... Connersville has more to offer in the way of many things. Things you don't see everyday or hear about, yet makes a company a well out standing company. I in my opinion think that in the long run it would be a priceless act to bring such integrity and honesty to Connersville. We have the attitude to survive, and the goal to win.
My family and I chose Connersville, Indiana over Boston, Mass in 1990 when we transferred from the South. We expected to be here three years; we have been here 19 years and have made it home. We think we will stay. I have had the opportunity to work in engineering management and very closely with hourly workers and am very proud of the teamwork, skills, and desire to excel of our labor force. I am approaching early retirement but believe if Carbon Motors becomes a reality, I would like to continue working. I have 40 years of manufacturing experience, primarily in automotive, have post-graduate and engineering degrees, but really have a passion for teaching. I would like to continue in a teaching/training capacity through local universities, Vo-tech or possibly directly with Carbon Motors - whatever is needed. We will be praying that Carbon Motors will choose Connersville, Indiana as their new home.
If Carbon Motors is bold company with 10,000 new sustainable American jobs which will be created driving a $3 billion positive economic impact over ten years, Connersville, Indiana is the town for you! WE are a hardworking and loyal group of people. Our schools are improving, offering the best education in this region of Indiana. Our high school offers 30+ hours in dual-credit coursework in general studies for students FREE. In this age of growing college debt for many students in postsecondary schools, we are the best deal of any of the five locations you are considering. As I'm the principal of the high school, call me, and I'll be happy to tell you more about it. Hope you make Connersville your choice as it is the BEST choice.
As a Supplier Logistics Manager for a Tier 1 automotive supplier, a former Visteon plant employee, a lifelong resident of Connersville, and a father with young children, I believe that Connersville is the location of choice for Carbon Motors for several reasons. First is the logistics aspect of the Connersville location. From experience I know that the centralized location of Connersville gives quick access too much of the automotive supply chain in North America and Canada. Additionally, the rail transportation into and out of Connersville is a great savings for both incoming and outbound freight. With the volatility of the fuel prices this is a great advantage for any company to have in their court. And let’s not forget the close proximity of the Connersville airport. This is a great asset to have for both expedited shipments and business travel. Secondly is the safety and security of my “hometown”. My wife and I moved to the city briefly, only to realize that there was no place like home. We are still within a 30-minute to one-hour drive of any form of entertainment or major malls that we choose; but we come home to a town with no traffic jams, no sirens, and no rush. Connersville is only a short drive from Indianapolis, Dayton, or Cincinnati. This close proximity to the “triangle” of cities is ideal for any family that wants the best of both worlds. Lastly is a work force that is grounded in the automotive industry and willing to take pride in a local company. Much of the workforce in Connersville and the surrounding area is continuing their education during these times of economic downturn. I am a firm believer in continuing adult education and believe that Connersville is a community that supports this. This is seen through our Community Education Coalition, IU and Purdue campus extensions (IUE), and Ivy Tech community college. I am proud to call Connersville my hometown, and Connersville would be proud to make Carbon Motors a part of this town.
As a new employer in Connersville, I can attest that the caliber of the available workforce is unsurpassed by any other market we looked at expanding into. Because of the dedication of Connersville workforce we have the lowest turnover rate in 5 years and the best customer service rating in our industry. Our growth has been successful in large part because of the dedication and skill level of the local Connersville workforce. Sam Turner US Internet Corp.
I wanted to express to you how thankful and blessed as a community we are to have this opportunity to have your company locate in our town. We are thirsty for an opportunity such as this and are pleased you view us as one of the top 5 communities you are interested in. We will roll out the red carpet for you and welcome you to Connersville with open arms!
Forty-three years ago, I moved to Connersville to start my life's career as an educator in the Fayette Co. School Corp. Forty-three years later, I am still here and plan to finish my life here as well. I have enjoyed living in Connersville. Why? Because it has some great, caring people; an excellent school system; many great churches; a safe city in which to raise a family; low cost of living and taxes as compared to large cities and other areas; local shopping conveniences for groceries, medicines, and other shopping needs; close proximities to one larger town and three major cities for shows, concerts, malls, restaurants, etc.; houses of all price ranges; etc. etc. Why would I want to live anywhere else? Carbon Motors, please allow us to welcome you to our town.
Connersville is more than just a small town to me, it is my home! I have lived here for over 30 years and have seen Connersville prosper and have seen it decline but with both have seen our community band together and encourage one another to keep pressing forward. We have an excellent workforce that is ready and willing to go to work at a drop of a hat. We also have a top notch school system that actually believes in the students and stresses to them they can do anything! I can go on about our location and detail just how close we are to entertainment, dining, and shopping establishments but I just want to say that I am proud of my community and hope that one day Carbon Motors would be proud to call it “home” as well. We have a lot of great attributes that fit hand in glove with Carbon Motors! If you want a small town with a big minded mentality, then we are it! Thank you.
Connersville would be the perfect place for your new operation. We have a highly trained and availabe workforce. I worked with many of the men and women, who call Connersville home, for more than twenty years in the local automotive plant. Let me assure you that they take pride in their work, and if given a chance would produce the finest police cruisers in the world. I have lived in this area all of my life, and I have no desire to live anywhere else. You will not find a better community with better people anywhere. Carbon Motors would be a tremendous blessing to this city and region. I know and love the people who call this city home. They simply need an opportunity to show what they can do. I would count it a great privalege to take any representative of Carbon Motors on a tour of the city and the surrounding counties. Thank your for your time and may God bless you and keep you.
Why choose Indiana as the new home for Carbon Motors? The locations is perfect. We area close to major metropolitan ares including Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Chicago to support transportation, educational opportunities, and many categories of expert workers. We have the transportation required to make this company successful. Airports, interstates, and railways are in close proximity. Educational opportunities are numerous, and the school corporation is proactive in training the workforce by providing both vocational training and Early College-High School programs. The town of Connersville is identified as a leader in the automotive industry and is ready to welcome and support this company. The workforce is ready and able to provide solid support to the company and understands the need for a strong work ethic, global leadership, and company loyalty. But most importantly, Connersville has a pool of young, talented people who would welcome the opportunity to live and work in the area while contributing to the success of Carbon Motors.
Directly across the road from the site that we hope will house the new Carbon Motors facility is the Connersville Municipal Airport, Mettel Field. The Baord of Aviation Commissioners(BOAC)representing the citizens of Connersville stands ready to supply the convience and safety of a modern airport to the Carbon Motors Corporation. The Connersville Airport features a 6500foot North/South (36/18)runway with pilot controlled lighting and a full length parallel taxiway. The Connersville airport ranks amongst the top 3% of airports in the nation with 6500 feet or more of runway. The airport can handle a variety of large aircraft including 737's, DC-9's,C-130's, Gulftream 550's and many other large aircraft. Recently a Navy F-18 Super Hornet was a guest at the airport when the pilot stopped by to visit a friend. Serving runway 18 is a Category One Instrument Landing System (ILS)complete with an Outer Marker(LOM)and lighting system array including a Sequence Flashing Light. The ILS minimums are 200 feet and one-half mile visibility. In the unlikely event that the ILS is down for maintenance or any other reason, runway 18 has an approved R-NAV LPV (Localizer Precision Verticle Guidance) GPS approach with minimums of 300 feet and one-half mile visibility. There are numerous non-precision approaches available. Supporting the ILS and the R-Nav LPV GPS is the Automated Weather Observing System(AWOS)adjacent to the Touch Down Zone (TDZ) for runway 18. The AWOS provides lightening strike information within thirty miles of the airport as well as all other weather information necessary to plan and execute a safe approach and landing during low visibility conditions. The AWOS is accessible by aircraft radio within approximately ten miles from the airport or from any place in the world by phone. Once on the groune the pilot can contact Clearance Delivery or Flight Service from the comfort and safety of the cockpit by utilizing the Ground Communications Outlet (GCO). The GCO provides telephone hook-up to these agencies through the aircraft radio. The airport has Jet-A and Avgas at very competitive prices 24/7 via the automated self service card swipe fueling system. If personal service is required, there are telephone numbers available on site. Friendly, courteious and outstanding service is provided by Jeff Dungan and his associates. Jeff is in the aerial application business so he and his associates are very close to and knowledgable of aviation needs. The Board of Aviation Commissioners (BOAC) is dedicated to the advancementof and constant improvement of the Connersville airport. We are a very active board, work well together and instead of talking and wishing,we get things done to benefit the airport, which in turn benefits the users and citizens of this area. The BOAC is very flexible and accommodating and in fact, if Carbon Motors chooses Connersville for their site, the BOAC has available 6500 X 50 feet of taxiway to conduct acceleration tests or other activities that can be safley conducted on the airport surface. The BOAC would be happy to coordinate and work with Carbon Motors to accomplish this and any other operations that would benefit their manufacturing, testing or marketing endeavors. Connersville, Indiana is a great location for Carbon Motors. The automobile manufacturing genes are in our blood and instilled in our history. The BOAC and Jeff will move Heaven and earth or whatever else to serve the needs of Carbon Motors. Thank you for considering Connersville for your home. Carbon Motors, Connersville, Indiana. It sounds like it's meant to be.
Mr Li, I think what you're starting to see here on the comments pages is a great indicator of why you should considering calling Connersville home: people love their town and they love their state. If you come for a visit, you'll hear a lot about "Hoosier hospitality" and "Hoosier pride." We have pride in our work, pride in our homes, and pride in our employers. The good people of Connersville can tell you why their town is so great, so I'll leave it to them. I do want to add my voice to those of us who have called Indiana home all our lives. I hope you get a chance to visit us soon, and get a chance to see what Indiana has to offer. And maybe you'll love it as much as we do.
When we moved to Connersville from Indianapolis to start a business 30 years ago, we were newlyweds with an infant daughter and had concerns about making a move away from the security of family and friends. These concerns quickly disappeared as Connersville took us in and embraced us. The people of Connersville are like that….open and ready to embrace newcomers. Our town would be honored to welcome Carbon Motors to our community. Connersville proved to be a wonderful place to work and raise our family. The feeling of teamwork, pride, and friendship within the community overflows into all aspects of life....faith, health, athletics, arts, education, and the workplace. I agree 100% with all of the posts made thus far on this blog. I would like to add, that for me, feeling safe in my home and in my community has been a great advantage to living in Connersville. Also, we especially enjoy Brookville Lake which is just 15 minutes away. Brookville Lake lies in the heart of the Whitewater River Valley. This area has long been acknowledged as one of the most picturesque and historically significant in the State of Indiana. There are two, full-service marinas for all of your boating needs. The 5,260 acre lake provides opportunities to enjoy wildlife or recreate in the great outdoors. The area offers camping, cabins, swimming, boating and hiking in a beautiful natural setting. After a hard days work, it is nice to drive over to the lake and fish a little while and relax. I think you’ll find that Connersville has a lot to offer! Thank you, Carbon Motors, for considering Connersville, Indiana!
Connersville Indiana is the perfect place to raise a family. I have had the pleasure of living here all of my life. My children have had a wonderful education and have stayed in our community to work and raise thier children. Our community is a very loyal one.
I would just like to say that as a life long resident of Connersville,Indiana I have seen the community prosper and as of recent I have seen the community suffer a set back in these times of economical stress. I think that Carbon Motors is just the thing this community needs as well as us being what Carbon Motors needs. We have a wonderful small town life with all of the bigger city living qualities within arms reach. We have a town of hard-working and committed citizens that would produce the finest work you have ever seen. I know that as citizen of this community we would be honored for Carbon Motors to locate here.
Connersville has a long history with manufacturing vehicles. In the early 20th century, our town became known as "Little Detroit" because of its importance to the automobile industry. Automobiles manufactured in Connersville include Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg, Empire, Ansted, Lexington and McFarlan. For generations, these great people have been involved in manufacturing. Without question, Connersville is the absolute perfect place to build these vehicles. Eager workers and the (huge) modern facility are already here in this great community. Let’s start building!
Connersville and Fayette County is an excellent place to locate a business. As exhibited first hand by our, Butler, Fairman and Seuferts, Inc., experiences as a business that has served the City of Connersville and Fayette County for nearly forty years. We say “Excellent” because through our tenure with several changes of local government we have consistently observed only loyalty and dedication to their local businesses and citizenry. This is the very core of the entire community. That is why employers will find the same from the area employees. The community is also visionary. This is never more prevalent than in their airport. The Connersville Municipal Airport is a world-class airport equipped for the most sophisticated corporate traveler. This airport can support a company in many ways from domestic and international travel to ground support for your company’s developmental needs.
I completely agree with the above comments. I would like to add the importance oF the Community Education Coalition. The Coalition has started an Academy of Progress program partnering with exceptional regional training and development resources to provide a set of programs focusing on 4 areas of leadership: Professional, Civic, Individual and Youth. Along with this great program computer programs and various art programs for adults, children and needy students of all ages. Other programs will be and have been available according to interest in various areas. The cost is very nominal and some projects there is no charge. For incoming residents this is a great way to meet and know people and learn or enjoy many things. I am an art instructor and deal with many and can see such progress . For any information please go to www.comedcoalition.org. Carbon will be very welcome in CONNERSVILLE
Connersville, IN would be a great location for Carbon Motors. I have lived here for over 40 years and raised my family here. We have so much to offer to a company looking for a new location. Carbon Motors would be a welcome addition to our community.
I was born and raised in Connersville, Indiana. I left Connersville to attend college for four years and decided to move back afterward because I love this community. As a citizen of Connersville, you feel like one big family. I am now the director of the Connersville Chamber of Commerce and I see this community suffering from a high unemployment rate. We need you and I hope you decide to locate in Connersville and become a BIG part of our family.
Outdoor Recreational opportunities abound for staff relocating to Connersville. Whitewater State Park, Brookville Lake, and the Whitewater River afford some of the most beautiful scenery in Indiana. This marina/resort web site will give you a glimpse into the area. www.KentsHarbor.com.
I wish to add my strong voice of support to Carbon Motors on behalf of the board of directors, 700 team members, and 100+ physicians providing advanced technology, superior and compassionate care at Fayette Regional Health System (FRHS). As the CEO of FRHS, and a board officer of the Economic Development Group, I know how important a strong partnership between health care and employers is within a successful community. At Fayette Regional, these are the driving forces behind the care we provide, our vision for the future, and our dedication to our communities - Fayette, Union, Franklin and Rush Counties. We believe our hospital and its team of professionals provide a unique balance between "big city" technology and facilities and a "hometown" caring touch. Our commitment to innovative, state-of-the-art, leading edge technology mirrors these same qualities found at Carbon Motors. While we are focused on our future, we are always building upon our past successes. During the past seven years, we've added 4 Centers of Excellence: Heart Care, Cancer Care, Women's Health and Orthopedic/Rehabilitation. Our partnership in Occupational Medicine brings talented professionals and proven protocols to our business partnerships. The FRHS team has been recognized both nationally and within the state for providing superb care. We are proud to be located in Connersville, Indiana for nearly 100 years. We believe the health of our citizens, and a healthy local economy go hand-in-hand. Carbon Motors would transform Connersville into the vibrant community that is within its potential - a close-knit, proud, welcoming semi-rural region with beautiful natural resources - within driving distance of 3 major metropolitan areas. Fayette Regional welcomes your consideration and commitment to Connersville.
Indiana has historically been known in the automobile manufacturing industry, by the same token we have seen the devistation caused by such a high unemployment rate. Not only has the Connersville community been hit hard by the closing of Visteon, neighboring communities are suffering as well. We hope you will consider expanding to the Hoosier state. We have so much to offer. Within an hours drive you will find several large cities. Connersville is so convenient to anything you could want but yet small enough to call home.
My family and I have lived in the Connersville area all my life. This is a wonderful area to raise a family you have the feel of a bid town and country living combined. I don't only live in Connersville but I have a small business here as well. I run the only NAFCC accrediated in home day care in Connersville, and have done so for 14 years. Our town and business were hit hard when Visteon went out and everyone is have a tough time making it. But I feel that Carbon Motors would be making a GREAT decision if the came to Connersville, you can't find a better town with as many hard working and caring people to make you business feel like home. Our town has alot to offer. Come make us your new HOME.
Connersville fits your wishlist best! My Great Grandfather hung the doors on the Cords here in Connersville. Pride in our communities past acheivements and future possibilities is not running short in Connersville. First, please consider our almost inexhaustable water supply. I think other Connersville posters explain the integrity and grit of our people. The Honda facility in Greensburg, along with the former presence of Visteon / Ford demonstrate the logistics and supplier capabilities in our region. Entertaining shouldn't be a problem around here; there's great hunting, fishing, golfing, boating, and athletic events in and around Connersville. Our local, state, and Federal politicians will work together with each other and your team do what it takes to bring you to Indiana. How about that purchase price on the Visteon building? And I hear the engineerng labs on site are what you'll need too! What you will not find in Connersville are traffic headaches for your shipping / receiving dept or long commutes and waits / delays in an "international airport." Our airport will accomodate all of your air transportation needs, and it's literally right down the road. I don't think I would want to be on the busiest interstate in the country. Our whole community will give you nothing but their best. I wish you much luck in your decision and I hope you look deep into why Connersville is Carbon Motors' best fit. BTW, congrats on your accomplishments to date! Your outside the box thinking on this car is amazing!
I grew up in Connersville, Indiana and my parents still live there. I left Connersville to pursue a college education and still return to visit. I am so excited to hear that this new business venture may breathe new life back into the town. Connersville has fought hard to keep the community going after loss and difficult times; its townspeople’s tenacity and perseverance is a quality that your business should value when looking for new employees. I loved growing up in a small town and would love to move back to a small town to raise a family. The safety and close feeling of community is a key factor in choosing a new location to build a family as well as to start a business. Bringing a company like Carbon Motors to Connersville would certainly appeal to a younger generation of newlyweds and young families to move back and plant roots in a town that meant a lot to them in the past. The future of Connersville would certainly be so bright with Carbon Motors moving to town!
You can tell by the responses on this blog how hopeful and excited people are at the prospect of Carbon Motors coming to our town. I grew up in Connersville and although I no longer live there, I still call it home. My parents still live there and when I visit them, people on the streets are quick to throw up a hand to wave or to say hello. People know your name and talk to you at the bank; or ask about how life is when you’re at the grocery. People are personable and are connected, which is why I am also very hopeful that Carbon Motors chooses Connersville. You would not be disappointed! Connersville’s small-town feel and values are hard to find these days. But, at the same time, big cities are only an hour away. You have the best of both worlds. I don’t think you’ll fully understand how special and welcoming Connersville truly is…I guess you’ll just have to come and experience it for yourself by bringing Carbon Motors to town!
Many positive aspects of Connersville has already been pointed out in the previous posts -- location, safety, community pride, education, entertainment, etc. I agree with all of these statements and that is why I decided to move back home and plan to stay here with my family. Carbon Motors can transform our community and region with many jobs and opportunities. In the end, Carbon Motors can feel very successful about what they have accomplished by choosing Connersville as its home. Our community is hopeful that you will choose us and promise that you will be extremely happy with your decision in Connersville.
STATUS IN INDIANA AS OF 28 Mar 2009: What to say? The one thing that comes to mind here is a very positive, full bore, 'throw in the kitchen sink' approach to economic development. It began with Governor Mitch Daniels and has flowed through the entire state and community in Connersville – which has, by far, translated into the most active blog posting on our Web site. The team, including the Mayor, flew down from Indiana to meet with us in Atlanta. The team, including the Mayor, also flew to the U.S. Capitol to meet with us in Washington DC. They have engaged U.S. Senator Dick Lugar and U.S. Senator Evan Bayh. They have unleashed the community to rally for support and have kindly invited us to visit Indiana again. We look forward to making Indianapolis, Connersville, and possibly the National Guard Training Facility stops on the 2009 Pure Justice Tour soon. Somehow I get the feeling the Mayor would be glad to see us - especially since he has even written to President Obama expressing how much he would like us in his town. We look forward to what we expect to be a sweeping and comprehensive proposal.
Gene Worley relating a personal experience that might interest Carbon Motors personnel: I have been a season ticket holder for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Friday Night Pops series since 1984. Eight times a year we get to see the very tops in big name entertainment in the fabulous Circle Theatre on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Symphony is one of only seventeen full time symphonies in the USA. They feature both a classical and a Pops series and perform over two-hundred concerts a year. Friday, 27 March, the guest artists were the Cirque de la Symphonie . The cirque features the world’s top aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, jugglers, balancers and strongmen. The group includes world record holders and Gold Medal winners of international competitions. Each artist’s performance was uniquely choreographed to the music arrangement provided by Maestro Jack Everly and the eighty-eight piece orchestra. The really good part is that we left downtown Connersville at 6:00 p/m and at 7:25 our car was in the parking garage and we were in the lobby of the theatre. And, we did not exceed the speed limit on the way. Connersville offers the best of both worlds. The peace, quiet and security of a small town and yet, one hour and fifteen minutes to downtown Indianapolis and everything the big city has to offer. I favor Indianapolis for dining and entertainment, however, Cincinnati and Dayton also have great things going on and are approximately the same distance as Indianapolis. Indianapolis has the symphony, the ballet, Broadway shows, jazz, art, and anything anyone could want in the way of top entertainment, art and cultural events. Then back home to the peace, quiet and security of Connersville. If you’d like to see what is only one hour and fifteen minutes away from Connersville, go to indydt.com for a full list of things that are available.
As Recreation Director for Connersville Parks and Recreation, for the City of Connersville, let me be the first to invite you to our oldest and largest park, Roberts Park. Roberts Park was given to the city in 1902, by Colonial James E. Roberts. Many changes have taken place over the last 107 years. The City of Connersville is very proud of our park and what we have achieved over the years. We are in the process of building a new pavilion, which is located in the center of the park. In 2006, the new Connersville Family Aquatic Center replaced the old pool that had been in the park since the fifties. We offer swim lessons, lap swimming, private pool parties, and of course it is open to the public daily. The John Miller Community Center was graciously donated in 2002 by Patsy Miller, widow of John Miller, a local Funeral Director. The Miller Center has a beautiful banquet hall, used for weddings, wedding receptions, anniversaries, business meetings, high school proms, and various other events. We also have a multi-purpose room/gym that is used for basketball, birthday parties, reunions, and more. We have two conference rooms used for small business meetings, showers, and more. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, visit Smalley’s Lake. It is located on the south side of Connersville and provides the perfect get-away for a long lunch or a pleasant day of fishing. The Park’s Department also offers various activities for young and old alike, including: basketball, Babe Ruth baseball, softball, T-ball, volleyball, horse shoe pitch, and other activities. The park provides several shelters and buildings that are rented for all occasions. It is our goal in the Park’s Department to assure the highest quality of life possible to our community through our many activities, programs, and facilities. We believe Carbon Motors would be a great addition to, not only Connersville and Fayette County, but all of East Central Indiana. With numerous other entertainment options including theater, both college and professional sports, shopping malls, and concert venues just a short drive away in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Dayton, the Connersville area is the perfect location to live and raise a family.
I wrote previously an encouragement to Carbon Motors and told about the CEC I forgot to mention the Science Van that visits many schools and locations with many activities for all ages. Connersville is more cultural than one might think. We have the Whitewater Valley Art's Association. The building is being renovated on the inside and has been painted and landscape outside. The Association has a traveling art show focusing on local talent and a bi annual auction of local arts. Just down the road in Richmond is the Richmond Art Museum. There are also several galleries within the area, those including Brookville, Liberty and Oxford Ohio. Those of us at the WVAA welcome new members. Dues are very low. The studio is open several times a week for any member to take advantage of. The Conner Quilters occupy part of the building and meet once a week and also welcome new members. The Connersville High School has a wonderful theater program with two different plays each year. Many more reasons for growth in this town.
I would like to touch on a topic that should fit in well with Carbon Motors coming to Connersville. Some where around 1967 a prototype shop was started in Connersville at the now Visteon building. It originally produced all prototypes for Philco,an appliance manufacturer of ranges refrigerators,washer/dryers, air conditioners etc.Philco shortly evolved into Ford Motor Company and the prototype shop at Connersville was soon recognized by Ford engineers both here and in Detroit as the best in the business.Prototypes are typically thought of as something made from wood or clay or any substance that could make a visual object to look at and touch. Not so in this shop, all prototypes had to be full scale real working "models" that not only could be but would be put on a test facility and had to produce expected results.Blueprints were most often provided by engineers for these builds but sometimes came on the back side of someones lunch bag drawn with a pencil.Other times it might have been the exchange of verbal directions only to get a project started. Mr.Li, I want you to know that there are many extremely talented individauls available here who worked in prototype/research and developement who are still around and in Connersville. This group can and will build anything you want even the impossible, which only takes a little longer.
I think it is terrible that Connersvile seems to be putting on a show for you Carbon Motors. Connerville has some very hard working people and you can be all dressed up but we are what we are. SO while you are here step away from Mayor Urban plans drive the back roads of the county the alleys of the city, walk the sidewalks, go to the stores, eat here go to the schools and swing in the park. I can tell you I have never been scared in Connersville but please see us for what we are. Connersville is what you make out of it and the big life is only an hour away.
This small city has a vast industrial history that reaches as far back as the industrial revolution. Roots Dresser is one of the oldest remaining factories in the city and has thrived through some of our most devistating economic time periods. Many years ago, Connersville was recognized for it's industrial backbone and that backbone combined with the growing educational institution will make this the obvious destination.
My name is Jonathan, I’m 26 years old and have lived in Connersville my whole life. My family has moved away but I wanted to stay in Connersville because this will always be home to me. The last Mayor election I ran on the Independent ticket because I wanted to make a difference not only in my life but to the community that has aspired me to be the person I am today. Connersville has so much to offer in so many different ways, and is ready to take on any challenges that lay in the way for the path to success. In order to tackle this enormous workload that Carbon Motors has in store for the potential destine city, the citizens of that city must be energetic, resourceful, and innovative. I truly believe that Connersville is the city who fits that bill. I believe that Transportation plays an important role in considering a potential location for a growing enterprise. Connersville Municipal Airport is the Heart of Connersville’s transportation needs. The Airport has everything equipped to handle any type of aircraft necessary for any shipping requirements. Connersville is also in a prime location being only an hour away from Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Dayton International Airports. Connersville is also connect to major highways that can be reached within minutes to also provide any transportation needs. Viewing Connersville from the outside only shows us as a small county within the Great State of Indiana, but realistically the Citizens of Connersville makes the Heart of this Community larger than the State itself. The Workforce here has experienced what sweat and dedication really means in hard work and loyalty. The Citizens of Connersville have no other intentions but to make Connersville a better place for us to live now and for our children in the future. With Carbon Motors announcing their desires of a “Police Officers Ideal Car” the Citizens of Connersville has a strong desire as well as determination in placing a hand in making Police Work Safer for the Policing Community. Connersville is the perfect vision of what a family type community would be. I believe the citizens need to be very much involved in what the City needs or gets because the citizens are the Heart and Soul of Connersville. Who know what the City needs better than the Citizens who live in it, and everyone in Connersville has spoken and would very much like the opportunity to show Carbon Motors in everyway possible that Connersville will welcome your Future Plans with Open Arms and Great Big Smiles. Carbon Motors…….We Welcome You…..I Welcome You……Thank You for picking my hometown of Connersville to make the final list of your desired cities. I Promise You Connersville will not be in any way a disappointment!!! Again Thank You for the Consideration…..
I was born here 72 years ago and went to school here graduating in 1954. I spent three years as a WAC then married and lived in California for 16 years returning to Connersville in 1977. I have worked at REX manufacturing which became Ford Philco renamed Ford Electronics. I have lived her 32 years this time and have seen the area prosper and have seen hard times but I sincerely that Connersville is the best location for your company. We all hope and pray you will see this town as a viable location for your Company. Thanks for considering this location.
Carbon Motors, the town of Connersville, IN welcomes you with open arms! We as a community are so excited to be in the running for such a wonderful opportunity!! As many have already expressed, Connersville has a strong automotive history and we wish it to be your automotive future. The people of Connersville have suffered many hardships over the past years. As you can tell by the overwhelming responses, we truly are a community of hard working, compassionate citizens, motivated to prosper and grow with Carbon Motors. I grew up here but moved away after finishing college. It was not until I married and started a family of my own that I truly realized the meaning behind “the quality of life.” After 6 years, I decided to return to Connersville and raise my children as I was raised…in a small community with strong values, country lifestyle, and a safe environment. Connersville will always be my home and I truly hope that you choose Connersville to be yours as well. Our community is longing for a bright future for ourselves as well as our children. Thank you Carbon Motors for your consideration and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors wherever you may choose!

You have given us a reason to come together even more than we already do and work as one in reaching a common goal....That goal would be to have your company locate here in beautiful Indiana. Mr. Li, it was great to meet you and the other leaders of your company yesterday in Connersville. As a 22 year veteran law enforcement officer, I was greatly impressed with your commitment to providing a superb vehicle to protect our citizens. But, as a 20 year Connersville citizen, I was more impressed with how much your pleasant personality seemed right at home with the fine citizens of Connersville. What you experienced yesterday is a way of life around here. 30 years from now you not only will have an incredibly successful company.....you will also have a very successful and happy group of workers that grew personally through day to day pleasant interactions within our caring and loving community. I am hopeful that you will choose the "Hoosier Hospitality" that Connersville offers everyday.
I just wanted to say "Thank you" for giving Connersville the opportunity to show what this community can offer Carbon Motors. We have a work force here in Connersville that will produce the best product. We take pride in our community and we will exceed beyond all measures.
This week was just the welcome, we can't wait to show you what we can do once you decide to locate here. We're ready to get to work and build the most awesome police cars ever seen!!!
Now you have seen that this community is united and ready to give you the support you need to make your new company successful. We also offer you a pleasant community that is ready to grow with your company and make our new residents comfortable here. The question I pose to you is this: Do you want to be the major player in the regrowth and rebuilding of a great American small city, providing jobs and a rebirth of it's citizenry, growing a company, participating in the community activities, knowing the population by it's first names, living the American dream in a low cost area, building and occupying beautiful homes at reasonable prices, cooking out in your neighborhood, playing golf, bowling, bringing new businesses to the area, etc., etc.. or do you want to be just another startup company in a big city, where nobody will know you personally, real estate and taxes will be high, where nobody will notice your coming and going, and where you will never have the impact you have here??? Your choice, and I hope you make the one we all know is best for you and for us.
There's no place like our home, Connersville, Indiana. It's a wonderful place to call home. In Connersville you'll find delightfully diverse, faith filled, family oriented people. Our hopes, dreams, triumphs and even disappointments is what drives us to be not only industrious and innovative, but mostly quite leaders in ways surprising even to us. We're united and excited to see Carbon Motors of Connersville roll out. It's our earnest prayer you'll join in the enthusiasm and find a home for Carbon Motors in our treasured heartland community of Connersville. Thank you for your consideration, Byron and Jackie Pyle
